I'm not certain that Tom Cruise has really fully recovered from his crazy antics of a few years back. Films like TROPIC THUNDER and KNIGHT & DAY have given us some ground to appreciate Cruise again, but it might be a return to sci-fi that will bring him back fully to his former glory.

Deadline is reporting that Tom Cruise has locked in to star in a 100 million dollar budgeted film titled OBLIVION. TRON: LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski will helm the project. Curious to know what science fiction shenanigans Cruise will be getting himself into this time? Read the synopsis after the jump.

Based on an original story from Kosinski and soon to be a graphic novel from writer Arvid Nelson and illustrator Andree Wallin, OBLIVION (which is now being produced by Universal Studios) follows...

Jak, a repairman working in a society where people live in the clouds after earth has become hostel. After Jak finds a woman in a crashed ship, he begins to question his existence and the world around him.

Sounds like a fictitious film filled with science elements! I hope this will be something Tom Cruise can finally get some proper praise for in and it sounds like just the right film to do so.
