Over the past year or so, really since the release of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, Tom Cruise has not only found a whole new set of fans, but has once again solidified himself as one of this generation’s last true blue movie stars. And now his next action effort has a brand new name.

THR is reporting that the film formerly known as ONE SHOT will now be going by the much more marketable name of JACK REACHER. Based on the series of books from writer Lee Child, the film is being backed by Paramount and written/directed by one Christopher McQuarrie. Also starring Robert Duvall, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, Rosamund Pike, Jai Courtney and none other than Werner Herzog as the film’s baddie, REACHER will follow a man who is caught up in a conspiracy following a stint in the military.

Personally, while I’m not sold on the film itself, particularly McQuarrie’s involvement, I do have a ton of hope for the film, primarily based on the fantastic cast here. Herzog is the world’s most ideal villain, and will hopefully add a level of absurd madness to what will be one hell of an actioner.
