Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson to star in SAVING MR. BANKS
Talk about one hell of a way to start building a cast.
According to Variety, Disney has commenced conversations with the pair of Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson to star in their upcoming film, SAVING MR. BANKS. The film features a Blacklist script from writer Kelly Marcel, and tells the story of just how Walt Disney was able to talk author PL Travers to hand over the rights to what would become one of Disney’s most iconic characters, Mary Poppins.
Hanks will star as Walt with Thompson aboard as Travers, and here is where it gets really odd. Director John Lee Hancock (THE BLIND SIDE) will helm the project, which at this point doesn’t seem to be moving forward all that quickly. Everyone’s slate has quite a bit on it, so while I’m excited for this film I won't be holding my breath. The idea of Hanks taking on Disney is quite interesting, and Thompson is one of the best actresses of her ilk. Hancock may be a hack, but even he can’t mess this one up, right?
