Tom McCarthy’s WIN WIN starring Paul Giamatti will now release earlier
I first met Tom McCarthy in Dallas with Richard Jenkins when they were on tour for McCarthy's latest, THE VISITOR. That film released so many emotions in my body that I wanted to tell the world about it. And I did - THE VISITOR went on to be one of my top 10 films of 2008.
McCarthy has a good eye in picking his awkward heroes. They need to be a bit droopie, aging, uninterested in just about anything, but can keep all eyeballs on screen during his parts in the film. For WIN WIN, we have the always wonderful Paul Giamatti. In WIN WIN, Giamattit plays a wrestling coach who stumbles upon a rebellious star wrestler. They form a friendship and have to handle what's good and wrong in a highly popular competitive sport. Amy Ryan co-stars.
WIN WIN initially planned to release on March 25th, but today we've got news that they are moving it up to the 18th. This is a good sign, as getting pushed back means something needs reediting or revising of the script. WIN WIN will make its world premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival. I will be there covering this, so look for the review and interviews coming soon.
