Tony Gilroy shoulder-tapped to write the next BOURNE movie

If you aren't watching Party Down, get to it. It's easily one of the best shows on TV right now. Plus, it's availalbe in its entirety on Netflix's Watch Instantly feature. I say this, because there is a scene in the episode "Not On Your Wife Opening Night," where Roman, a wannabe screenwriter, spends his evening downing bottles of wine and committing obscenities worthy of a Greek chorus. This occurs out of the adoration paid to him by a few actors in a community theater play. Roman revels in the limelight because he, as a writer, never feels as though he gets the credit he deserves.

Tony Gilroy is one of those guys. He's the guy who started out writing the BOURNE movies, but was also responsible for MICHAEL CLAYTON and DUPLICITY. Looks like he'll be writing the fourth BOURNE movie, tentatively titled THE BOURNE LEGACY, now as well.

Hearing the news that Tony Gilroy will return for the next installment in the franchise is something fans of the series should be jumping for joy about. Gilroy is an amazing writer, as he is able to build a narrative so suspenseful and full of momentum that he can make a legal thriller feel like CRANK.

The real question we have here surrounds the other major players in the film. We're left wondering - will Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass return? Damon is easily one of the best parts of the franchise, largely due to the intensity and raw physical ability he brings to the role. That, and it just wouldn't be BOURNE without Damon. After all, the tagline for the first movie sold it as such...Matt Damon is Jason Bourne.

I'm still not entirely convinced we need a fourth movie. The third film was not only a great movie, but it also put a great cap on the series. It'd take one hell of a cast and crew to convince me this is anything but a moneygrab by Universal. Hopefully, they pull it off, as they've got some great stuff for their source material.

Kudos for somehow weaving in a Party Down reference into some news about the next Bourne film. You won't see that in any other rundown today!
