Tony Kaye’s DETACHMENT heading to Tribeca 2011
With all of the festival talk primarily focusing on names like the now-concluded Berlin and SXSW, and the upcoming Cannes , yet another big name festival just announced a few new additions to their lineup.
The Tribeca Film Festival has announced that the latest film from director Tony Kaye (LAKE OF FIRE, AMERICAN HISTORY X), DETACHMENT, has joined the festival’s slate.
DETACHMENT stars Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, Lucy Liu, James Caan, Marcia Gay Harden, Blythe Danner, Tim Blake Nelson, William Petersen, and Bryan Cranston, and follows a substitute teacher who has his life changed by a trio of women. The film is beating out the film BLACK WATER TRANSIT, Kaye’s prior film, which is still awaiting some sort of release after falling victim to the fiasco over at Capitol Films.
The film also joins a documentary on the band Kings of Leon entitled TALIHINA SKY, but is without a doubt one of the more interesting projects announced for the festival. Kaye is a really talented filmmaker, and with such an interesting premise, this could be a great film from the director. I’m a huge fan of AMERICAN HISTORY X, so if this has have of the dramatic power that that fantastic film had, we’re in for something really special.
