TOY STORY 4 might be happening
Lee Unkrich’s TOY STORY 3 served as the perfect way to close out Disney/Pixar’s most beloved and well-known franchise. However, that may not have been the end of Woody and Buzz’s feature-length adventures. While promoting LARRY CROWNE, which hits theaters on Friday, Tom Hanks told the BBC that a fourth TOY STORY film might be in the works already.
Why would Disney/Pixar make a fourth film in a franchise that they ended so perfectly? With yet another sequel in the form of MONSTERS UNIVERSITY – it’s a prequel, but it still counts – and finally releasing more than one title per year beginning in 2013, The Playlist thinks that shareholders and the almighty dollar are to blame, and I can’t help but agree. Just this weekend, the studio's name proves to be an unstoppable force at the box office, even with CARS 2, Pixar's first critical bomb ever.
While it’s unfortunate that money is slowly but surely taking precedence over the films’ quality, it’s a near inevitability for a Hollywood giant like Pixar. Here’s hoping that this is just a rumor or that Hanks is pulling our leg.
