Trailer for AMIGO hits
At least this isn’t a trailer for a new Adam Sandler film.
The first trailer for John Sayles’ upcoming film, AMIGO, has hit the web (via Apple and The Playlist), and it definitely looks like one hell of a winner. The film stars Chris Cooper, Garret Dillahunt, and D.J. Qualls and follows a fictional take on the war between the U.S. and Philippines, that looks to also play as a commentary using this conflict as a proxy for the current state of U.S. foreign policy.
AMIGO received really solid reviews coming out of its appearance at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, and should play as an interesting bit of counter-programming this summer when it hits on August 19.
I personally dig the hell out of this trailer, despite what appears to be a bit of a misleading sense of action, at least according to those who have seen it.The film looks to be a really intense piece of drama, which is always a welcome addition to the summer slate. Sayles is a fantastic filmmaker, and one that should fit this material perfectly. Toss in a top-notch cast, and this may be just the film us art house nerds have been clamoring for during this slog that is the summer.
