Russell Brand as Arthur

Often, remakes get scoffed at as nothing more than studios simply trying to make a quick dollar off a storied name, but sometimes, they do ultimately work.

The latest film that will try to prove that concept true is Jason Winer’s feature remake of the beloved comedy, ARTHUR. Starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, and Greta Gerwig, the film follows a playboy who, after falling for a woman his family doesn’t quite care for, risks losing his huge inheritance.

Yahoo has released the first trailer for the film, and while it doesn’t ultimately make the film look like a classic, it does do something a lot of comedies today can’t: make me laugh.

I love the team behind this film. Winer is best known for his TV series Modern Family (the best comedy on TV I mind you), and does give the viewer a lot of great laughs here. Mirren punching Brand in the face will without a doubt make the way around the Tumblr world in .gif form (hopefully anyways), and along with a series of fun jokes, you have Greta Gerwig, one of today’s most interesting and compelling actresses. Hopefully these aren’t the best beats of the film, but at this point, hopes are really high for this thing.

That got a lot better as it went on, but still looks cherry picked. Here’s hoping this has more to offer.

Also, I didn’t expect to like Get Him to the Greek but Brand made it work. Fingers crossed he can go two for two:P
