Olivier Assayas is definitely one of the prolific filmmakers working today. His films have been making waves at the Cannes film festival for years, and though I've only seen his 2009 film SUMMER HOURS, I can attest to his ability. That movie was a quietly restrained family drama, which is quite a juxtaposition with his latest film - CARLOS, a biopic of Carlos the Jackal.

Hit the jump to find out more about this character, and to watch the trailer.

Carlos the Jackal was one of the most notorious terrorists of the 70's and 80's. He was responsible for the 1978 raid on OPEC and several other attacks; hundreds of people have died due to his work. In 1992, he was arrested and sentenced to a life imprisonment in France. Naturally, his life is interesting enough for a movie. I'm curious to see what Assayas can do with this story, as the most notable points of his life span decades and continents alike.

IFC Films is bringing CARLOS to theaters starting October 15.
