The trailer for DARK TIDE, starring Halle Berry, hits

Oscar winner Halle Berry has some hefty personal troubles looming over her at the moment, and her last film, FRANKIE AND ALICE, was a disappointment with audiences despite a Golden Globe nomination and early-season Oscar buzz for her leading performance.

It’s safe to say that she could use a bit of a break, and shark thriller DARK TIDE might just be it. BLUE CRUSH and INTO THE BLUE director John Stockwell is at the helm of this feature, where Berry plays a diving instructor who lives on an isolated island surrounded by sharks; Olivier Martinez plays her husband who decides to risk her safety out of selfish ambition. Based on what can be extracted from the trailer, which can be seen after the cut thanks to Shadow and Act, DARK TIDE doesn’t look impressive at all, but it might be Berry’s first hit with audiences in quite some time.

Berry herself looks to be fine in the leading role, but the plot feels rather weak and flimsy. Here’s hoping I’m wrong about DARK TIDE, though, as I’d love to see Halle Berry make a grand return to prominence in Hollywood.
