You might be thinking I made a terrible typo in the title of this article. But, as it turns out, GNOMEO & JULIET is definitely the title of Kelly Ashbury's new animated film. Go figure.

GNOMEO & JULIET is about a bunch of garden gnomes doing things Shakespeare would write about (or did, depending on your stance on the word "adaptation"). I just saved you the ticket price, but if you insist on torturing yourself, check out the trailer after the jump.

Seriously. You don't need to watch this.

Sadly, Kelly Ashbury has been associated with some really great projects in the past (THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE BLACK CAULDRON). I could definitely be way off base with my early distaste for the film, but I cannot fathom this being anything more than mind-numbing and at the very least, passable. I mean it does have a talented voice cast and the rights to ruin any Elton John song it pleases, but that doesn't make for a good animated film.

Once people realize that it's not just about making kids laugh, you need to have some heart to make an animated film successful, then maybe we will avoid these terrible cine-shits. Until then, there will always be GNOMEO & JULIET.
