Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s DEVIL
Amongst the copious amounts of LAST AIRBENDERs and THE HAPPENINGs, people tend to forget that there is a reason why people deemed M. Night Shyamalan the next Steven Spielberg.
Sure, I wouldn’t go as far as to say the director of THE SIXTH SENSE is the next Spielberg, but as long as the guy stays the hell away from a pen and some paper, he is an immensely talented visual filmmaker, and is genuinely inventive when thinking of story ideas.
That is why, when news of a new film entitled DEVIL came to rise, a film based solely on an idea from the Shamhammer, I got a little stoked. Well, thanks to Universal (via Apple) we now have a trailer for the film and honestly, it looks pretty impressive.
The film is directed by the Dowdle Brothers, best known for helming the [REC] remake, QUARANTINE, and stars Chris Messina, Bojana Novakovic, and Bokeem Woodbine, among others. The film follows a group of random people, who become trapped in an elevator, only to find out that “one of these five people, is not, who they appear to be.”
Yes, the premise doesn’t sound too original, but the trailer does look really interesting and definitely tense, and who doesn’t like the occasional upside-down shot of a city’s skyline. Overall, this isn’t world-shattering, but personally, this is exactly the type of project Shyamalan should be doing. The only thing that I would like to see him do more is actually helm the project, but hey, as long as he’s not writing the film, this is a win for all of us.
