At just over two minutes, the trailer for OF GODS AND MEN is pretty well slow going. Despite the trailer being somewhat unintriguing, the film made the rounds at the major festivals last year, including New York Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, and Cannes - where it won the Grand Prix.

The French film, which is loosely based on the lives of the Cistercian Monks of Tibhirine, tells the story of eight French Christian monks living in a monastery in the mountains of North Africa. When violence erupts around them by the hands of an Islamic fundamentalist group, they are forced to with a decision - leave their monastery and take shelter in the army's protection or stay at the monastery and face uncertainty.

Directed by Xavier Beauvois, the film was the official entry from France for the Best Foreign Language Film for the upcoming Academy Awards. It did not make it to the final nominations, which include BIUTIFUL, DOGTOOTH, IN A BETTER WORLD, INCENDIES, and HORS LA LOI. But don't feel too bad for the film, it leads the pack for France's own version of the Oscars, the Césars, garnering 11 nominations. See the trailer after the jump.

OF GODS AND MEN hits theaters on February 25.
