Trailer for The Doors documentary, WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE
Now here's one film I regretfully missed last week at SXSW, Tom DiCillo's documentary narrated by Johnny Depp about The Doors called WHEN YOU'RE STRANGE. I was born in '83 so I obviously wasn't alive when The Doors performed, but I do have ears and they did request on more than one occasion that I listen to the album "Strange Days" during my teen angst years (12-15). I'm glad Val Kilmer has already played Jim Morrison in a feature biopic because nobody else can act or look as identical to Morrison as Kilmer did.
Since I clarified that I haven't seen WHEN YOU'RE STRANGE, I can only tell you what I know from the synopsis and trailer, which is this: WYS gives us previously unseen footage of the band and shines some light throughout their album recording days. hit the jump to see the trailer and official synopsis. WHEN YOU'RE STRANGE opens limited (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Dallas) on April 9th, 2010 and will hit DVD around 90 days later.
Synopsis:
"Award-winning writer-director Tom DiCillo's riveting film uncovers historic, previously unseen footage from the illustrious rock quartet and provides new insight into the revolutionary impact of their music and legacy. The film is narrated by Johnny Depp.
Taking its title from the cabaret-tinged Doors hit "People Are Strange," the film chronicles the creation of The Doors' six landmark studio albums in just five years, as well as their electrifying live performances. Rare cinèma vèritè footage offers an intimate glimpse into their musical collaboration - and their offstage lives."
