Trailer for the remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s PUSHER

It looks like I’m not the only one with a intense crush on the Danish auteur, Nicolas Winding Refn.

Thanks to the film’s official Facebook page (via The Playlist), we have our first look at the upcoming remake of Refn’s masterwork, his first entry in the ever-brilliant PUSHER trilogy, PUSHER. The film is a UK production from filmmaker Assad Raja, who also stars in the film, and it looks to be a shot for shot remake of this modern gangster classic. Check it out, and my thoughts on it, after the break.

PUSHER stars Raja, along with Mahima Chaudhry, Pasha Bocarie, Marc Anwar, Mohammad Zadran, and Mani Liaqat, and will hit theaters in the UK on October 15. While I’m not at all a fan of this trailer, nor the rather blasphemous idea of remaking one of the past decade’s most superb genre films, I respect the audacity of the idea, in a similar way I respect Gus Van Sant for remaking PSYCHO. Hopefully, however, this will have a better outcome.

Yeah, that won’t happen. What should happen though, is you hopping on Netflix and renting the entire PUSHER trilogy, as it is one of the greatest cinematic trilogies ever released. It’s a fantastic series of films that takes a seemingly stale genre, the gangster film, and does something so wholly unique and original. Check them out, instead of this remake.
