One of the more interesting films that found its way to this year’s Cannes Film Festival was the martial arts action film WU XIA. Co-directed by Peter Chan and the iconic Donnie Yen, the film played Out Of Competition at this year’s festival, and despite having a few glaring flaws, it is definitely a film to keep an eye on.

As I said in my review of the film, it’s a bit bland at moments, but the gorgeous action set pieces more than make up for it. And now, thanks to The Playlist, the new trailer for the film directly hints at those very set pieces.

The films tars Yen as a man with a dark past who must take out revenge on those who have haunted him in the past, and is both a deeply rooted piece of drama and also an action film with a great sense of humor. It could stand to lose a good 20 minutes off of its runtime, but with the Weinsteins backing it, that shouldn’t be too hard.
