TRANSFORMERS 3 to be filmed with 3D cameras
TRANSFORMERS 3 or TRANSFORMERS 3D? Which sounds better? We will soon find out when Michael Bay starts to market his film, come to find out Bay is shooting the film with 3D cameras. Now with everything (literally everything) coming out in 3D these days, why is this news you ask?
First of all, it has been said by Bay that the use of 3D cameras for his action scenes and stunts are too large and awkward to be used. So it is news that he suddenly wants to use them, especially in a action-packed film such as TRANSFORMERS. Second, most films making it to the screen in 3D right now are doing post production 3D, which means that the film is not being shot using the actual 3D technology to capture the realism that 3D cameras can bring, it's being added instead after the film is finished filing in the studio. If you want an example, look at AVATAR, then look at CLASH OF THE TITANS. In comparison it almost looks like the only thing 3D in CLASH is its title. But with AVATAR you see that everything, especially the beautiful CGI, clearly has the depth and realism that 3D specific cameras can bring.
The technology used in AVATAR to create the realistic world has been created and developed by James Cameron and Vince Pace, of FUSION 3D and 2D digital camera systems. The camera being used is called the Arri Alexa Pace 3D camera. Vince Pace told Market Saw:
“Trying to lay low and do what I do best. We took delivery of the first Alexa cameras for Hugo and have 23 more on the way. Transformers has also signed on to shoot 3D throughout the film. I am working on a big Disney film but can’t mention the name and are lining up five more films. Just wrapped on additional photography for Resident Evil and Tron. Currently in Hawaii and flying out to London for Hugo.”
This is some good news in my opinion, I figure if you are going to go 3D, at least do it right, and it looks as if Michael Bay is thinking the same thing.
