Tweeners rejoice! SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH movie on the way

Best known for a well loved (or at least I remember people liking it during its run on Friday nights) TV series in the ‘90s, people tend to forget that Sabrina The Teenage Witch was actually originally crafted as a character for comic books by the good people at Archie Comics.  And now, it’s going to be making its way into theaters everywhere.

Apparently Sony Pictures is looking to update the character and make her a tad “edgier” and have brought in the pair of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari to work on a new script for the project.  The pair pitched an idea to the studio, which also apparently had director Mark Waters (MEAN GIRLS) aboard to helm the film.

The new film will follow Sabrina as she comes to terms with her powers, and will even include the beloved black cat Salem. Personally, while I’m not all that familiar with the actual comics (I only vaguely remember reading Archie comics when I was younger), I do love that TV series, so I am actually quite interested in seeing a film version.  Knowing that it’s from these guys makes it an interesting prospect, particularly if Waters jumps aboard.
