Unauthorized doc about Harvey Weinstein finds distribution
UNAUTHORIZED: THE HARVEY WEINSTEIN PROJECT - a documentary centering around the (allegedly) true and legendary exploits of the iconic rags-to-riches producer - just nabbed distribution through IFC Films at the Toronto International Film Festival. IFC has been on a tear so far up in Canada, acquiring James Gunn's SUPER, Werner Herzog's 3-D doc CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, and now UNAUTHORIZED.
The official press release had this to say about the brutal honesty of the doc:
“A powerful, uncensored, no-holds-barred account that traces Weinstein’s path from concert promoter on the cold streets of Buffalo to his first trip to the Cannes Film Festival, where he arrived with one pair of pants and closed his first movie deal, to winning an Oscar, and breaking the bank with his first $100 million film.”
Audiences will no doubt respect the man and his company for what he has accomplished from the ground up, and will probably laugh off his antics, temper tantrums, and controlling hand. The history of Miramax and the PULP FICTION era should be especially interesting.
