Universal sets dates for SAVAGES, OBLIVION, and DESPICABLE ME 2
Today, it’s far more common to witness a studio rushing projects to the big screen than taking their time. Take the difference between Relativity and Universal, and their SNOW WHITE projects. Relativity’s film is pushing its way into production without taking much time at all, while Universal is giving their's some time for some script rewrites, hopefully resulting in a film of a higher quality.
And now, Universal has decided to give three projects all the time in the world.
According to Box Office Mojo (via The Playlist), the studio will be releasing the Oliver Stone thriller SAVAGES on September 28, 2012, with the Joseph Kosinski sci-fi film OBLIVION and animated sequel DESPICABLE ME 2 in 2013 (July 19 and July 3 respectively).
Personally, the film that I’m most interested in here is SAVAGES. The cast, including the likes of Uma Thurman and John Travolta, is top-notch, and it’s always interesting to see what Stone has up his sleeves.
OBLIVION is a film that’s been batted around for a while now, and for fans of the original DESPICABLE ME, a sequel should be much appreciated. That all said, it’s just nice to see a studio give some huge projects the time they need to really grow.
