With the newly opened space by a now-gestating THE WOLVERINE, Universal seems to have smelled blood in the water, and is now circling around one Hugh Jackman for a hotly anticipated project.

Deadline is reporting that the studio has offered Jackman the huntsman role in the upcoming film, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, set to be helmed by Rupert Sanders.

The film currently has Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron to boast as its cast, as well as potentially writer Hossein Amini, who is also in talks to come in and polish up the film’s screenplay. Going head to head against Relativity’s Tarsem-directed THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE project, this would give even more momentum to a film that appears to be getting beaten to the punch.

Personally, I think that the casting of Jackman would be about as spot-on as one can get. I mean, when thinking of a huntsman, very few actors pop into mind prior to Jackman, so it’s truly pitch perfect casting. While I’m definitely bummed to see the former Darren Aronofsky-led THE WOLVERINE seem to die right in front of us, this could prove to be a relatively worthwhile venture for the actor. Count me in.
