Viggo Mortensen

UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that the rumor mill is flowing, and that Kristen Stewart is being sought after to play Snow White.  This would go against the studio’s strive for younger, lesser known actresses, so we will have more on this as it comes.

While DARK TOWER may have gone to Javier Bardem, actor Viggo Mortensen won’t be without a new project on this day.

Variety is reporting that Mortensen is in talks to join the cast of Universal’s upcoming film, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, a new take on the iconic Grimm fairy tale.

The film follows a huntsman, who ultimately becomes the protector of Snow White, who he was originally sent out to kill. The two try to escape the evil queen, who will be played by actress Charlize Theron.

Apparently the studio is looking to a young actress, in the vein of Hailee Steinfield from TRUE GRIT, to star as Snow White, who the studio has yet to cast. Personally, I like the idea of casting a relative unknown to go against the two A-listers that are in talks to join the cast here. The premise sounds really intriguing, and if anything, it will be nice to see a classic narrative get a new and fresh take.
