Viggo Mortensen wants to retire from acting?

One of my favorite results of the LORD OF THE RINGS movies was the rise of Viggo Mortensen's fame. He was such an untapped resource of great acting and, from all the interviews I've heard him do, you can tell that he's a genuinely nice guy who deserves the attention he's getting now. Now, he's ready to leave it all behind! In an interview with Men's Journal, Mortensen admits that he's considering retiring:

"I have no plans to do another movie. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m open to seeing how I feel in a while, but right now I’m not saying yes to anything.”

As sad as his retirement would be, I'm really only concerned with one thing: what does this mean for THE HOBBIT?!

This isn't the first time Viggo Mortensen has expressed his desire to stop making movies. Back in April, he told The Times that he didn't want to commit to any new movies because there are other things he wants to do.

So do I think Viggo will not be a part of THE HOBBIT if he is asked to reprise his roll as Aragorn? No. I say that for two reason. First, I'm sure his relationship with Peter Jackson is still good. Second, let's face it, he owes Jackson. Not to take away from his skills, but Peter Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS made his career and it would be really crappy of him to leave Jackson and Guillermo del Toro high and dry. He can set aside a couple of months to play Aragorn, right?
