Vincent Cassel to hit the rom-com scene with wife Monica Bellucci?

Editor's Note: Check out our friend Jenni Miller's interview with Cassel about the rom-com over at Vanity Fair!

Sometimes, the combinations that you think will fail, prove to be the most royal of successes. More often than not, this comes in food combos (cheddar cheese and raspberry sandwich - DELICIOUS), but this is also true in Hollywood. While it is true that some combos just can't work, like Ben Affleck opposite Jennifer Lopez, or the faces of Brad Pitt or Joaquin Phoenix paired with beards that outgrow their heads, some quirky combos work. We can't forget TWINS.

While out doing press for his most recent performance in MESRINE with USA Today, Cassel said that he would be producing and starring in a rom-com with his wife. Apparently, it's set during the Carnival Rio de Janeiro and was slated to shoot sometime in 2012. While Vincent Cassel and wife of eleven years, Monica Bellucci, have worked together before, the subject matter has always been a bit more serious, such as the unrelentingly brutal IRREVERSIBLE (2002).

Since posting, USA Today has pulled this section of the story. We can assume the story wasn't quite ready for the public yet, but we'll be waiting for any updates that surface, whether by slip of the tongue or otherwise. The question now remains, if this project ever sees the light of day, is this a winning combo? Or will it fail like Phoenix and his beard?
