In the wake of the massive hit that is the TRANSFORMERS film franchise, the next logical step is to bring the world of Voltron into theaters, right? Well, over the past few years, as attempts have been made to bring this franchise to the big screen, it has seen its fair share of issues.

However, thanks to Vulture, we now know that that may not in fact be the case.

The outlet is reporting that there is indeed a deal starting to be made by World Events Productions and a group of studios looking to nab up the rights. This is interesting to note, as a while back, the rights holders were hell bent on getting a new TV series made, and were quite adamant that they weren’t all that interested in backing a feature film.

Voltron follows a group of people who pilot a fleet of robotic lions that join together to create the titular giant. This take has a script penned by Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the same team behind the upcoming CONAN film.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the franchise, and really think that while it may cost a pretty penny; a Voltron film could have the makings of something special. That said, I am not sure what type of buzz this could have in the general public’s eye, so it may not be a worthwhile venture.
