A movie based off Premiere Voltron has been in development hell for a very long time at this point, despite the successes of similar franchises like TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE. You think one or two of those films would have given VOLTRON some major legitimacy. That certainly isn't the case for this one, as the film version is dead, and other plans are being made.

Instead of VOLTRON hitting the big screen, they will be satiating fans' needs with a new line of toys and a Nicktoon series. This is a way for them to build up some momentum on the franchise, and get all the youngsters of this generation on board. Of course, neither TRANSFORMERS or G.I. JOE did that, but a Nicktoons series could be really good.

Plus, this doesn't necessarily mean a film version won't happen, they just want to try this first. Who knows, maybe the Nicktoon will be hot shit, and fast track a film version. But as for now, we can hope the show gets the Nicktoon quality and can wow this generation's youngsters.
