WANTED 2 scrapped; Jolie moving to Cuaron’s GRAVITY?

It looks as though the sequel to Timur Bekmambetov's popular action film, WANTED, has been completely scrapped by Universal, due to Angelina Jolie walking away from the project. Rather than recasting her role, the studio has decided to bail completely on the project.

Now, rumors are running around regarding which project Jolie has replaced the WANTED sequel with. Thoughts and a possibility after the jump.

Instead of WANTED 2, Vulture is reporting that Jolie is in talks to play the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron's latest film. His latest project, GRAVITY, is a thriller which follows the sole survivor of a long term space mission. Several people are comparing the film's concept to that of MOON, the debut film of Duncan Jones, and I can't stop thinking about how cool it would be to see Cuaron's take on this sort of movie.

Cuaron is probably best known for his 2006 film, CHILDREN OF MEN, which earned spots on dozens of "Best of the Decade" lists. I really enjoy all of his films, though Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN is easily my favorite. This gets me really excited to see what he can do with a more conventional science fiction film, as CHILDREN OF MEN had substantial elements of sci-fi throughout its dysfunctional future setting.

As a fan of the comic WANTED, I was pretty disappointed in the movie adaptation. It was a fun movie and I would probably be interested in watching another one, but it only dealt with about 3% of the material in the comics. The rest it either made up or copied from other standard action movies.

I'm kinda tired of seeing every role that needs a dark-haired, sexy tough-girl type character go to Angelina Jolie. She's done well with those roles before so she keeps getting more of them. I would like to see her as a different sort of character and this GRAVITY project from Cuaron sounds like it would be. I loved Children of Men and Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN is on my list.

I never read the comics, but that's what I heard. I loved the film, but I think if I read the comics, I'd be a little bummed too.

I agree with Cuaron – he's a badass for sure!

I don't think the end of this thing is necessarily bad, but why does her pulling out kill it? I mean c'mon her character took a roundaboutly self inflicted .45 ACP to the head in last act of Wanted… It was really more nonsensical to have her back in the first place half her brain was on the floor… sorry is I spoiled that for anyone.
