WB near deal to pick up Baz Luhrmann’s GREAT GATSBY
A week ago, director Baz Luhrmann revealed that he had to make a decision whether or not to do his long-talked about adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
Well, apparently he’s made his choice, and is now just waiting on another from none other than WB.
Deadline has revealed that the studio is looking at (and nearing a deal to) pick up the rights to the film, which will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. Deals aren’t in place for the talent, but it is safe to assume that these will be the film’s stars, since the film was workshopped with these thespians over the past few months.
The deal is set to be done by Friday, and will see the film head over to WB with a script by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. Personally, I think this is absolutely great news. Luhrmann is a perfect name to helm this film, and with a cast including those three actors, you really can’t go wrong. More on this as it comes.
