UPDATE: WB working on remakes of LETHAL WEAPON, THE WILD BUNCH, more
UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that GANGSTER SQUAD writer Will Beall will be writing the script to the upcoming LETHAL WEAPON remake/reboot. So at least there is a little bit of talent involved. Better that than nothing. Here’s the original, full story.
Apparently there is nothing sacred anymore.
THR is reporting that a few beloved franchises, as well as single films, from the WB catalogue will be getting the remake treatment. The outlet has revealed that LETHAL WEAPON, WESTWORLD, THE WILD BUNCH, THE DIRTY DOZEN, and TARZAN will all be getting remakes sometime within the future of the studio.
That last bit is added to the description, as it’s not quite clear what films will be on their way first, or within what stretch of time. However, this isn’t the first time these films have been talked about as being possibly remade. Arnold Schwarzenegger was once attached to a WESTWORLD remake, with David Ayer on board to take on THE WILD BUNCH. Even a classic like THE DIRTY DOZEN was once set to be helmed by Guy Ritchie, with Stephen Sommers once being attached to a TARZAN reboot/remake.
That said, the LETHAL WEAPON news is a bit interesting. This is the first time we’ve heard of a possible WEAPON remake, and frankly, I don’t know what to think. I don’t have a huge love for the original series, so frankly, this is fine by me. However, I can only imagine the fire this news is going to spark online. All in all, I’m far more upset about films like THE WILD BUNCH and THE DIRTY DOZEN than I could ever be about a LETHAL WEAPON remake. Just don’t care all that much about the latter.
