The statue seen above stands at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home to the Arizona Cardinals - the team that former safety turned U.S. soldier Pat Tillman once played for. The Cardinals' organization obviously holds Tillman in high esteem, and the country should, too.

Tillman left his professional sports career and enlisted in the Army in June 2002, in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. He was killed tragically by friendly fire in the mountains of Afghanistan. But the real story was the fact that the U.S. government attempted to cover-up the truth in favor of propaganda. The documentary THE TILLMAN STORY tells the real story, but the hope of reaching a wide audience has been spoiled recently when the MPAA decided to give the film an R-rating for excessive language.

This led to an appeal by the Weinstein Company, who produced the documentary, but it was just announced that the MPAA refused to overturn the decision. THE TILLMAN STORY was directed by Amir Bar-Lev and narrated by Josh Brolin, and just premiered in New York this past week at the MOMA Museum. Those involved were hopeful the rating could be dialed back to a PG-13 but, sadly, that's not the case. Will we see an edited version of the film or would that be doing a disservice to Tillman's story and in turn disrespect his memory?

Bar-Lev has full support from Tillman's family, but his upcoming documentary about Jerry Garcia has now been postponed due to the singer's estate refusing to grant song licensing for the film.

Please consider visiting and possibly donating to the Pat Tillman Foundation - a foundation whose goal is to help veterans and their families.
