Wes Craven: will he direct SCREAM 5?

Known as a master of the horror genre, Wes Craven had a little bit of fun with SCREAM, a film that both gave audiences suspense and satirized the horror genre. The fourth installment of the series hit theaters back in April, and since it had been eleven years since the third feature, audiences simply weren’t very interested anymore.

Even so, Harvey Weinstein, who serves as executive producer of the series, insists that the franchise will boast another film, but Craven plans to have “the summer off” with his wife as reports state. He’s still interested in working another film in the SCREAM franchise, and it’s good for him that he’ll be the first director to know about the project.

Entertainment Weekly reports that he, by contractual obligation, must have “first dibs” for the directing gig. Series writer Kevin Williamson states that he has “more twists and turns” for the films to take. SCREAM 4 was a bit difficult to thematically digest in certain spots, but if there’s any directing-writing duo that should be working on these films, it’s Craven and Williamson.
