Whalecom Aboard! Say hello to our new contributor, Jason Whyte

Rachel Fox

May 29th, 2012

Gordon and the Whale is very excited to welcome Jason Whyte onto the team.

If you don't already know Jason (seriously? there's someone who doesn't know Jason Whyte?!) who hails from Victoria BC, read on...

It all began when two year-old Jason was taken to see his first movie, E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL and all he could do was comment, "This floor is SO messy!" Thankfully his love for cinema developed further after that.

Jason has been around the world wide interweb since 1996, when 56.6k modems made you the cool kid on the block. His first work was on actor websites in the late 90's and early 00's (most prominently Julia Stiles' official website) and was followed up with freelance writing and moderating large online forums (an online bouncer, if you will).

Jason's largest claim to fame is working for the website efilmcritic.com, which is one of the largest film review and film festival coverage sites on the internet. He can be seen running between film venues at the Vancouver, Whistler, and Victoria, BC fests along with annual trips down to Austin, Texas for SxSW and Fantastic Fest. In addition to having his own writing and photography featured in various local and international magazines, Jason has also been an occasional contributor to CBC Vancouver's BC Almanac show and has been interviewed by The Vancouver Sun & The Globe and Mail about various film festivals.

His favorite movies are STOP MAKING SENSE, 2001, THE APARTMENT, APOCALPYSE NOW and NETWORK. Also enjoys an unhealthy obsession with 80's and 90's action movies, live music and searching for late night poutine.
