Why? Joel Schumacher to helm THE HIVE; penned by Richard D’Ovidio
How this guy keeps getting work, I’ll never know.
Whether it be a film like THE NUMBER 23 or the now-iconic BATMAN AND ROBIN and BATMAN FOREVER, director Joel Schumacher has become more of a punch line than a box office draw. However, with yet another film, TRESPASS, set to hit theaters later this year, Schumacher has again found himself a brand new project.
Variety is reporting that Schumacher is set to helm a new film, entitled THE HIVE, penned by THIR13EN GHOSTS scribe Richard D’Ovidio. The film will follow “an emergency operator who must confront a killer from her past to save a young girl’s life.” The film is being set up at Troika Pictures, and has yet to get a start date.
Personally, while I’m sure the guy has his supporters in Hollywood, I couldn’t be any less interested in a film than one directed by him. FALLING DOWN is a fine film, but as far as directorial efforts go, Schumacher is not one to really glorify the position. This one sounds like the most cliché thriller narrative around, so this is about as positive as one can really get.
What do you think?
