Will Sasso (HAPPY GILMORE), whose involvement was rumoured earlier this week, has officially been cast in 20th Century Fox' long-delayed comedy film THE THREE STOOGES, according to a source close to the production.

Sasso takes over the role of Curly, who was originally set to be played by Jim Carrey (BRUCE ALMIGHTY) before he dropped out, along with Sean Penn (MILK) and Benicio Del Toro (FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS). The other two lead roles have not yet been recast.

THE THREE STOOGES, instead of being a biopic, will instead be a fictional story using the Moe, Larry, and Curly characters in a modern setting.

The directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly (THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY), are aiming to start production in mid-April.
