Winnie The Pooh returning to theaters in 2011

Now, while Disney has been rather behind the curve with their animated films for much of the decade past, with films like THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, the studio looks to be getting back to what made them great in the first place.

And now it appears as though they are going back in the vault, and bringing out a beloved on screen character.

The Age is reporting (via The Playlist) that Winnie The Pooh is set to head back to the big screen. Not only that, but the project is being spearheaded by Disney/Pixar head John Lasseter. Jim Cummings is set to return as Pooh, but the really interesting bit of news here is that John Cleese will play as the film’s narrator. Apparently the film is coming along at a relatively fast pace, and will see a release in theaters sometime in 2011. Disney sent over two first look stills, including the one up top. Hit the break to see the other and to learn more about the project.

The film will be at “a faster pace punctuated with humor that’s appropriate for modern audiences,” and will also feature five brand new songs. The plot is said to involve "the whole gang [going] on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit."

Personally, the former part of the new information sounds really uninteresting, but it does seem to go along rather well with what the studio has been pumping out as of late. This could be a great chance for a generation that hasn’t had Winnie The Pooh in any massive sense to fall in love with the timeless character, created by A.A. Milne. I know that I can’t wait for this thing, no matter how bad “humor that’s appropriate for modern audiences” truly sounds. And trust me, that does sound utterly dreadful.
