Wish list for CATCHING FIRE director includes Cronenberg, Cuaron and Inarritu

I hate wish lists.  The only use they have are for those looking to buy me things from Amazon.  However, when three names like these are assembled as the sought after directors for one of the film world’s biggest open directors chairs, you have to take notice.

Unlike what many people had expected, Lionsgate is looking completely outside of the box here. The top three names on their wish list for the director of the upcoming second film in the HUNGER GAMES trilogy, CATCHING FIRE, include the likes of David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Personally, while I’d like to see one of these five names get the gig before any of these directors, I would love to see Inarritu get the gig.  He doesn’t seem to have all that much going on, and I think that he’d be perfect for a narrative like this, and with producer Jon Kilik working on this film, the pair have experience together. Probably the cheapest of the bunch, this seems like the likeliest of the three, and I would love to see it.  Cronenberg seems like a random choice, and while he’s probably the most established director, I don’t think he’s the right fit. Cuaron is accustomed to the spectacle of big budget properties, but he seems a tad too busy, particularly with how fast Lionsgate wants to get this thing turned around.
