In the general scheme of things, a director having a walk-on role or a cameo in a film isn’t all that rare. However, when your name is Woody Allen, and it’s not your film, it’s far from common.

Over a decade since his last on-screen performance for a director not named Woody Allen in Alfonso Arau’s PICKING UP THE PIECES (his last performance in general was in SCOOP), Le Parisien has gotten (hat tip to Collider for digging this up) some quite intriguing news.

The outlet has picked up a photo from the set of the upcoming PARIS MANHATTAN, that sees the director filming a scene, one of multiple, according to the paper. The film is the directorial debut of Sophie Lellouche, and follows a pharmacist that has an affinity for Allen’s films. Starring Alice Taglioni and Patrick Bruel, the film is a romantic comedy, that will see Allen cameo as himself.

This isn’t the biggest news, but it is really interesting to see Allen finally return to being in front of the screen. He’s a really funny actor, so hopefully this hyper-meta turn will be just one step in a return to acting for the director. Having just watched HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, I'm not only in the mood for more Allen features as a director, but also more Allen performances.
