WTF: Fox working on post-apocalyptic ZORRO feature

Sometimes it’s tough to have faith in humanity. This is one of those times.

24 Frames is now reporting that the reboot game is continuing, and this time, it’s Zorro’s turn. That’s right, Fox is set to reboot the ZORRO film franchise, but this time, the character is heading to the future.

The film, entitled ZORRO REBORN, will see our masked hero returning, this time placed into a post-apocalyptic world, with nods to films like NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and those of Sergio Leone  It’s currently in the early stages of development, and will be the first film since 2005’s THE LEGEND OF ZORRO.

Penned by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (who have their Dracula film, HARKER, being set up by WB), the film does have a director, one Rpin Suwannath, “previsualization supervisor” on films like VAN HELSING and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. Yup, this one sounds like a winner.

Honestly, this one is too easy to make fun of. It’s just now getting kind of sad. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a new take on the Zorro character, but the period in which the character was originally placed in is part of that character’s charm. Taking him out of that and placing him in a THE ROAD-like world just seems really dreadful.

Expect this one to go straight to video. Or at least one can hope, right?
