If you saw this coming, I want to know who you are, because you are a fortune teller of legendary proportions.

According to Heat Vision, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are looking to make a name for themselves out of the CRANK universe, and have chosen one hell of a random project to do so with. The outlet is reporting that not only will Nicolas Cage return to the upcoming sequel to the rather maligned GHOST RIDER, but they are also reporting that the duo of Neveldine/Taylor are in early talks to direct Columbia’s upcoming film.

The film, called GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, doesn’t have an announced plotline yet, and details on the film are under strict lock and key. But, David Goyer penned the screenplay, with Avi and Ari Arad producing with Michael De Luca and Steven Paul. Not much else is known about the film, but I personally couldn’t be more dumbfounded by this news.

I don’t think that there is a bigger fan of the two filmmakers than yours truly. From CRANK to its sequel, and even parts of GAMER, I am quite a big fan of their work. This, while being an insane story, makes complete sense in some deep and wild place.  With their style, a bike riding guy with a flame skull kind of sounds freaking awesome.

While I’m not quite sure why the two of them have jumped aboard this thing, I hope this comes out better than their attempt at JONAH HEX. No word as to if the two of them will be re-writing the script, but since that isn’t quite their strongest attribute, let’s hope they leave it to Goyer. Overall, this news is as random as it comes, but as a whole, I really have high hopes for this thing.

First? Not jumping up and down that they chose this as their next project but anything Neveldine & Taylor do catches my interest. GAMER is one of the most underrated action films in years and in that film, as in the CRANK flicks, I saw flashes of Oliver Stone and Paul Verhoeven. If GAMER would have performed better, I doubt this would be the next project on their slate.
