X-MEN: FIRST CLASS welcomes a new mutant: Banshee
Updated: Deadline has confirmed that Jones has landed the role of Banshee.
Relative newcomer Caleb Landry Jones (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, Friday Night Lights) is the frontrunner to play Banshee in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, a mutant that up to this point has only been seen in the comic books and on the X-Men animated series.
Banshee, for the uninitiated, is from Irish descent (hence the name) and he’s a bit of a screamer. Banshee’s mutant power is a sonic roar that hurts the ears of bad mutants and can cause acute hearing loss and actual physical vibrations. Gee, how fascinating. What a great character to introduce to an audience that will undoubtedly be watching (and listening) to Banshee deliver his trademark yelp over state of the art THX sound in a theater with dozens of speakers! That shouldn’t be irritating at all.
Is this really a good addition to the franchise? There are still plenty of mutants to choose from, you know. I’m sure Matthew Vaughn (LAYER CAKE, KICK-ASS) knows what he’s doing, however, and will use Banshee’s superpower sparingly. I’m just being negative, I suppose.
