Zac Efron to star in THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN
While he’s still doing films like the upcoming neo-sequel to VALENTINE’S DAY, NEW YEAR’S EVE, Zac Efron is actually set to have quite an interesting couple of years.
After being looked at for a cavalcade of really intriguing projects, particularly the English-language remake of SNABBA CASH, The Playlist has revealed that Efron has nabbed yet another exciting project.
Producer Albert Berger confirmed to the outlet that Efron is currently attached to the upcoming film, THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN. He will take up a role that’s been long talked about, previously having Shia LaBeouf attached, and the film is allegedly drawing comparisons to films like PULP FICTION. Big shoes to fill.
The film follows “Charlie who after the death of his mother, heads to Europe to find himself. There, he meets a girl and falls in love. The trouble is she already belongs to an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal, but that won’t deter Charlie who endures one bruising beat down after another to woo the girl and keep her out of harm’s way.”
Personally, I do really dig the premise here, and while I’m not a huge fan of what I’ve seen from Efron throughout his career at this point, this sounds like one hell of an interesting film. Matt Drake will be penning the film, and while it doesn’t have a director currently attached, it is out to directors, so expect quite a bit of news on this front in the coming weeks.
