Zemeckis not helming WIZARD OF OZ remake
Oh the difference 24 hours can make.
According to The Wrap, Robert Zemeckis will not be directing a remake of the classic film, THE WIZARD OF OZ. A report suggesting the opposite was released yesterday, leaving the blogosphere and the world of Twitter ablaze.
The report stated that not only would the film be remade, but with the original film’s screenplay as well.
Apparently, the film is still looking to get made, but Zemeckis is not spearheading it, as he will be focusing on his CG-animated remake of THE YELLOW SUBMARINE. Is that shocking to anyone?
Personally, while I in no way think that the film should be remade, I did have a bit of an interest in seeing what Zemeckis could do, returning to live-action filmmaking. That said, I am glad to see smarter heads prevail, at least at this moment, making this film head back into the hell from which it came. I’m sure the film will ultimately be remade, but if I can avoid it during my lifetime, I’ll die a much happier man.
